Resources relating to Young People in the Maitland LGA

Below are several links to useful resources related to the Maitland Local Governament Area. Resources have been gathered from a wide variety of sources including locally, statewide and national sources. These resources provide an overview of the Maitland LGA and can be a good source to refer to when applying for funding or creating social reports.

All effort is made to ensure that these resources are up to date, however you are encouraged to check for yourself as well.

Hunter Valley Research Foundation

The HVRF is Australia's longest running independent, not-for-profit, regional research organisation and is committed to assisting business, government, statutory bodies and community organisations. The Foudation's site offers a variety of data providing information on key aspects of communities within the Hunter. Head over to the site and have a look in the publications sections for more information.

Maitland Social Compass

The "Maitland Social Compass" is the over arching title given to the following community resouces developed by Maitland City Council.

  1. The Maitland Community Profile and Atlas
  2. The Maitland Community Directory
  3. The Maitland Social Plan
  4. The Maitland Social Planning database (currently under development)

The Maitland Council website contains a large variety of datasets on the LGA as a whole, individual suburbs as well as comparisons to the Hunter region, the state and to the nation. To access this information head over the the council website and use the search feature

Maitland 2021 Community Strategic Plan

The 2021 Maitland Community Strategic Plan was adopted by Maitland Council in February 2021. It outlines a current snapshot of the Mailtand LGA and outlines planning for the coming 10 years. With the populatiopn of the area set to increase from 70,000 to 90,000 during the next 10 years this document is an important part to any planning that involves the area.

Community Means business - BRES

The Business Retention and Expansion Survey (BRES) was conducted through out 2010 in the 2322 postcode. This area covers the suburbs of Thornton, Woodberry, Tarro, Beresfield and Hexham and was completed by a variety of local employees. it is hoped that the survey can be utilised to improve employment opportunities for local young people and their community and encourage them to create greater ties with and remain in the area.

Maitland and Dungog Youth Interagency

The Mailtand and Dungog Youth Interagency meetings are conducted by the Youth Development Officer. Based out of Hunter headspace (73 Elgin Street) in Maitland, the YDO co-ordinates two separate interagencies across the area.

Maitland Youth Interagency

The Maitland Youth interagency is run on the last Thursday of every second month 9:30am - 11:30am at a rotating venue through out the Maitland LGA. Meeting dates and venues for 2012 are as follows:

February 10th - 2012 Youth Development Plan

March 29th - Maitland Neighbourhood Centre, Arthur St Rutherford

May 31st - Headspace, 73 Elgin St Maitland

July 26th - Maitland PCYC, James St Maitland

September 27th - Breakthru Employment Solutions

November 29th - Headspace, 73 Elgin St Maitland


Dungog Youth Interagency

The Dungog Youth Interagency is run on the last Wednesday of every month at Dungog High School 10:30am-12:30pm. Meeting dates for 2012 are as follows:

January 25th, February 29th, March 28th, April 25th, May 30th, June 27th, July 25th, August 29th, September 26th, October 31st and November 28th.
