During July and August 2017, NCOSS toured the state to speak with over 500 community leaders and people working in community services, as well as those doing it tough. Yarnin’ About Hep C

Hepatitis NSW has launched a new booklet for Aboriginal people, “Yarnin’ About Hep C – a booklet about hep C for Aboriginal people in NSW”. It is an important initiative, given the recent improvements in hep C treatment. For example, did you know that new medications are suitable for all people with hep C, irrespective of their sub-type (genotype)?

Did you know:

  • treatments generally last just 12 weeks,
  • involve one pill, or just a few pills, each day,
  • and the treatments have minimal side effects?

Yarnin’ was developed with the involvement of AHMRC, Aboriginal healthcare workers, Aboriginal artists, and most importantly, Aboriginal people affected by hep C.

Head to Health: digital mental health gateway

A new digital mental health gateway, Head to Health, has been launched by the Federal government. The gateway forms part of the government’s $4 billion annual investment in mental health. Head to Health is an essential tool for the one in five working age Australians who will experience a mental illness each year.

The website helps people take control of their mental health in a way they are most comfortable with and can complement face-to-face therapies. It provides a one-stop shop for services and resources delivered by some of Australia’s most trusted mental health service providers.

They include free or low-cost apps, online support communities, online courses and phone services.

Head to Health provides a place where people can access support and information before they reach crisis.
