Staying Connected When Emotions Run High

You are invited to attend a one day professional development workshop for “Staying Connected When Emotions Run High” facilitated by Dr Annemaree Bickerton (Child, Adolescent and Family Psychiatrist) and Toni Garretty (Team/Clinical Coordinator Family & Carer MH Program ISLHD).

“Staying Connected When Emotions Run High” an introductory workshop for Professionals. This professional version workshop is aimed at those working with people across the life span from adult mental health, child and adolescent services, generalist health, drug and alcohol and key community professional agencies e.g. FACS, school counsellors, teachers, Headspace and NGO’s. This workshop was developed alongside the family and carer intervention to introduce the concepts to activate a “Staying Connected” Community of professionals. Equipped with shared frameworks and a common language, professionals can work collaboratively alongside families and carers, in providing a cohesive “System of Safety and Support” acting together as an optimal resource for safety and hope for a distressed person in their recovery.

The frameworks and ideas can underpin and strengthen collaborative partnerships for best outcomes. Participants will have the opportunities to apply the Five Key Relationship Strategies in various scenarios, alternatively walking in the shoes of a carer and professional. The workshop is a mixture of didactic, film, workbook exercises, small group activities and role plays (enacted by the facilitators). The workshop highlights frameworks for thinking about the brain and distress, “quick fix” (maladaptive coping strategies) and the relational processes and strategies for turning “contagious distress to contagious calm”, optimising safety and clear thinking. The concept of triangles is also introduced. A workbook and certificate recording 6.5hrs for CPD evidence is provided.

Take Action is Live!

Young people want to make their world a better place but too often we hear and see the barriers young people face when they try to get involved.

When Youth Action asked young people what would help, they told us they wanted clear information and more ideas for ways to act, without always relying on adults to for help.

So they created Take Action with young people.

Check out the resource here.
